6 Tips To Maximize Your Label Order

Here at Summit Print we help businesses of all sizes, in all industries. If there is one thing we have learned in our 10 years of experience it is that efficiency is crucial for all businesses, big or small.

Although the labelling phase is an exciting time for companies launching a new product or expanding a line, it can also be equally as stressful. Creating an efficient and effective process for ordering labels can help save you time, money and sanity.

Below are 6 tips to help you maximize your next label orders:

If you are ordering multiple labels for various products or lines, we suggest printing them all together in one run. Not only does this make the process more efficient, but it also allows you to reach higher combined-quantities, which in turn, results in lower per-label costs.  Our two state-of-the-art HP Indigo printers can print as many SKUs as you like without any of the printing plate costs needed in older print technologies.

In order to print your labels in one run, they have to be the same size and material.

For those of you who are not familiar with label-terminology, a ‘die’ is essentially the industry equivalent of a cookie cutter – it is the tool that cuts your label to the shape you need. Having to order a new custom die can be costly.

However, over the years, Summit Print has acquired over 1,000 different shaped and sized dies that are available for you to use. By using our in-house dies, you have the flexibility to choose one or multiple dies while avoiding a custom-die fee.

3) Choose The Right Material

If cost-efficiency is an important factor (as it usually is), you should ask your label supplier to provide different options to choose from. Be careful not to be too frugal when choosing though, as it could be a costly mistake if your material doesn’t have the properties you need (water resistance, durability, removability etc.).

As well, don’t be afraid to try something new. Experienced printers can look at a label and identify which materials will enhance the design, while working within your budget.

Unlike most print companies, Summit Print does not have any minimum order requirements. We understand that just-in-time ordering methods help with inventory management and waste reduction.

That being said, if you are able to accurately forecast your label needs for a few months and if you know that the label contents won’t change, ordering higher quantities will help lower your per-label cost.

One of the best ways to increase your labelling efficiency is to reduce your waste. If you work within an industry that is subject to constant change or shifting consumer preferences, we suggest reviewing the requirements often so that you don’t have to re-print wasted labels.

The same goes for your ingredient information. It is a shame to have thousands of labels only to find out that your ingredient information is inaccurate and unusable.

Time and time again we see companies in a mass panic trying to get their labels printed last minute. Although our standard 4 to 5 business day lead times are exceptionally short, there is always somebody who needs them sooner.

Whether it’s a customer fulfilment need or a retailer who needs your finished product sooner, some things are just not foreseeable. By planning ahead you avoid being rushed and can better adapt to time commitments.
