Big Rock Candy Mountain

Big Rock Candy Mountain

unnamed-2Summit Print recently had the pleasure of working with Other Sights, a non-profit arts organization, with their new public art commission ‘Big Rock Candy Mountain’.

Hannah Jickling and Helen Reed, two local Vancouver-based artists, organized various art programs and workshops with Queen Alexandra Elementary School to examine how children contribute to the overall process of art and design creation. In doing so, the children were able to explore their creativity and ideas, which ultimately came to fruition in the form of a candy-infused chocolate bar!

The children got to select from a variety of candy options as to which ones were to be used in their chocolate bar. Ultimately, the decision ended in a “bitter battle” between candied lemon zest and lemonade wild cherry nerds. Once the candy combination had been finalized, the children were then asked to draw pictures of somebody eating the sour candy chocolate bar, which were incorporated into the final wrapper design.

unnamed-1Summit Print was thrilled to help with the wrapper printing, as the look, feel and functionality of the packaging were important to the overall design process. If you hurry, you may be able to purchase one of these deliciously-sour chocolate bars before they are all gone!
